Guide| How To Prevent Being Scammed | Personal Experience| All New Members Read|

Post by Tunechi on 2013-03-04, 10:47

Introduction: The main reason I am creating this post is to warn members of the scams which take place in our community (unfortunately). I am extremely motivated in creating this thread as I am a victim of one of these scams.

    - Make sure the "host" you are trading is ranked in the friends chat. If they are not in friends chat, do not hesitate to ask them to join.
    - Make sure you read who you are trading with in-game, both before trade, and in-trade window (both windows). Typical scammers will create accounts with similar names to those of the hosts. For example, 0sean is a host in-game. There was an impostor called "with 0sean". When right-clicking on this scammer, if you are observant, it will read "Trade With with 0sean". I watched several people almost fall for this scam.
    - Some scammers may create a clan cape much similar to that of "Cora Dyce". Just because they have a cape that may be, or look like "Cora Dyce's" does not mean they are trusted.
    - Host will NEVER ask you to transfer money from one account to another (I fell for this one). Even if you feel like your 100% sure it's the host, don't do it, you are not obligated to, not as a member, nor as a test of becoming a host.
    - IRC scams are especially tricky because the scammers do not need to be in #coradyce to be able to PM or Query you. Like stated above, never trade any money to a hosts "skiller" or "noob" account. Typical IRC scammers will create IRC names similar to those who are ranked. For example, in a REAL query from Award, it will show up as <Award> but an impostor might create a nick called <[Award]>. Make sure you verify both in game whether you are speaking to them in IRC and if neccessary.
    - If you do fall victim to an scam, please report it as to prevent others from falling for them too~!
